Udaipur. With its unique blend of majestic palaces and temples alongside quaint alleyways of the old town, the city of lakes transports you to a by-gone era. Tucked behind narrow pathways, large courtyards and restored havelis* pay homage to the city’s heritage, with great many embankments cradling the tranquil Lake Pichola.

Several small but packed shops line the streets of old town where one will find artists immersed in miniature painting, silversmiths ushering in the bright-eyed tourists and antique stores enticing collectors. There is no dearth of rooftop restaurants, each offering a view of the various lakes in the city.

A mellow cousin of the younger, spirited Jaipur, Udaipur’s charm also lies in its warm-hearted and giving people.

Some visuals of our travels to this beautiful city can be seen here.

*Haveli - multi-storied mansions of opulent architecture, decorated in frescoes and murals and, often built around courtyard(s).
